Sunday morning I went (with a Scotchman) to the exhibiition of paintings and drawings held at Julians. The prizes were won by Frenchman. The drawings were fine the paintings very poor. In the afternoon we went to the Louvre, and saw the work of over a hundred years produced by winners of the Prix d’ Rome. It was instructive. Paris is the place to create the best in a mans work. I only wish i had arrived before. Have received two letters from Bob- He is well, and thinks Germany is the place to live in.
