My dear Parents,

First day nothing to do
but to write, sleep, eat, and walk.

You probably saw the tug hurry to us a sixth fellow passenger. She bravely
climbed up the high-sided 'Devonian', and landed on deck; white washed
looking - and warm. So four of our passengers are young men, those of the other sex are elderly; and already ill. Although the sea is calm - At lunch the Captain appeared, he is a small-headed species, with large fists and feet. He leads the conversation
at the table, is most interesting. Talks about frieghts [[freights]], dead meat, incubators and different game-laws in his country. He is a conversationalist.

If it were not for the weather, the trusts, or strikes, talk on board ship would dwindle to all most small gossip. I anticipate a rather dull time. Six passengers not much

Father ought to be here - tonight he could almost play pool -
