My dear Father -
A letter from you last week. I am glad you are feeling well, and hope your spring is not so rough as ours. All this week we have been having sloppy snows. 
Yesterday I painted a 'picture'. The subject was Notre Dame after a snowstorm. It was cold work, but interesting. Towards the end of summer I am going to ship some paintings over to you.
I received your check of March 4th and thank you for the same. I am laying aside some of your very liberal allowance. Mr. Sargent wrote me a letter yesterday, and forwarded to me a letter of introduction to Callin [[good guess?]] the artist, in which, he spoke of me as a friend and countryman, who wishes to continue his studies in Paris, and he took pleasure in recommending yours truly
