Dear Parents

The Academy has kept my large painting and returned other. The portrait of two boys which is over eight ft in length, and very broad in handling is detained. It is to my mind a triumph so far that the main jury has acknowledged its worth and passed favorably on it. Still it may [[crossed-out]]still[[/crossed-out]] be thrown as the Academy is all for its friends and pupils and at the last minute the Glasgow School (which now has refused to send) this school and [[crossed-out]]symath[[/crossed-out]] sympathizers are generally thrown because we do not paint [[underlined three times]]pretty[[underlined three times]]works.
