started on my new plans of work The making of influential acquaintances Mrs [[Kilby?]] has interested herself and has given me a number of introductions to very rich African mine owners. I assisted an elderly lady friend of hers to buy a six hundred and fifty point automobile yesterday and have a number of invitation out to various things for the next week. The season is on.
I have tried in many different ways to make a little money. At present I have in the Punch office five drawings for inspection. I have the new story to illustrate at ridiculous price, and so things go. Not over encouraging

But I am not discouraged. I firmly believe that if I stayed on here each year would become easier. And certainly an artist is thought more of at home who has been painting on this side of the water.
If I go home in June I want to have a lot of water colors on hand, and carry over five large paintings. Now by the first of June if we do not see clearly ahead in my work, do you think it wise for me to leave on a vesel and lose some months of my rent. We will wait a few weeks and then decide these questions. Write me if the sketches arrived all right. And if you will hang some of them up in your office will send more. I hope you are all well and

as busy as I am. But that your work is more profitable.
With love William
