My dear Mother,

I am glad to learn that Dr. Opperts [[Oppert's]] pictures are on this side of the water, & thank you & father for your trouble, & also father for turning the balance due on these over to me.

Monday I saw a very good performance of Tanhaisser [[Tannhäuser]] with Kraus in the [[title?]] roll.

Tuesday the A.thel. Verein here, & in the other university cities where it has an organization, had a meeting of the past & present members. We went to Wannsee, where eight or ten of the pastors near Berlin wll [[with]] their wives & daughters, & about twenty-five of the students gathered 1st we had coffee together out doors. then in a pavilion we had a Wissenschaftliche Versammmlung with a paper & a discussion by the ministers present. then we chartered a steamer for an hours [[hour's]] sail at a cost of only 15M (there were 60 of us) which was cheap enuf. then on our return we had supper in the pavilion, consisting of roast meat, potatoes, four other vegetables, bread, butter & cheese & a glass Münchener. For this & the coffee we each paid 1.80M. Returned 1.00 A.M. to Berlin.
