Last night I saw a strange sight. The closing of the Luxembourg Gardens at the hour of 9 - In the center of that beautiful Park some twenty ordinary men in gorgeous uniforms and many medals had assembled. At the beat of a drum they marched around the garden followed by all the young and many of their elders, it made a droll sight. Every one seemed to enjoy following on. 

We are having a fine weather here. The picture I painted in London of the old man is much admired here; it is really very rich. Perhaps the best thing I ever did.
