Dresden, Aug. 11th

My dear Mother:—

It seems strange not to get any more letters from you. I think I should have arranged better about having letters forwarded. Here I am in a comfortable pension, & I hope that the place where we have engaged rooms in Munchen, "Pension Burger" Luisenstr 42 will also be good.
 
Friday I made a fine excursion to Meissen; from where I sent you a card. the porcelain factory;— in fact I think most of their little china figure pieces are horrid:— did not interest me nearly so much as the old castle and cathedral, built, with perhaps eight or ten other homes, on the top of a hill. The castle has been gorgeously redecorated inside; but the church remains untouched. It was very plain, but with a fine front, & a graceful lovir[[louver?]] at the rear. The old pulpit had a group of four hour glasses, each one running fifteen minutes.
