My dear Mother

This afternoon I met the brother in law of Fritz Tharlow, a man of great weight large beard, and reputation.  It was a strange coincidence that he sent to the new Salon a young painter studying a very old meager woman while I sent to the old Salon an old man with a young model.  We talked for an hour and my French puzzled him and astonished me.  I really got on well.  He says his brother in law finds Carnegie of Pitsburg a help to his pocket book.

He talked about going next week into the country for the summer.  He has forty-six pupils here.  I am really anxious to get away it is hard for me to apply myself.  I am leaving so soon.  I should like to have been going into the country with such a painter But wish
