childhood naturally draws one to home.  The expressions and soul of the work is most noticable at present.  You know that as a boy in the art museum I had a faculty for getting something of spirit in my work.  This work has done me much good.  I long to have and repeat many more compositions of equal strength.  This summer I plan to paint a large canvas- a group of old and young men in Puritan costumes around a Dutch dining table, the small windows throwing a 'Rembrandt light' on [[make ?]] etc. The subjects to be called (_________) the idea showing the maturing of plans for the trip of the Mayflower.  

You remember I worked in an old house at Zandsvoort built in that day.  I may work it up here in my studio or take a trip to 'Holland' the poor farm. Hiring my costumes in Amsterdam.

Anyway when I return next year to America I intend to make a bit with my birthday and Puritan work.  The picture I am doing now is to be priced $1,800 and you could not find anything more interesting than this work to send to the St. Louis exposition.
