July 1903

On the 15th of August I am invited to spend two weeks with the Fords at their country home— Have accepted—

My dear Mother,

I have written several times this year to Runyun. Your letter of reprimands - a letter like your last pleased me - did me much good. I know that I am a poor correspondent and really do not think and plan out my own affairs wisely. I shall brace up now - On receipt of Father's last kindness I am fairly out of the mud—

I am certainly planning out a number of pictures - And one or two shall be ambitious ones.

I want by fall to have completed at least two of these works— The St. Louis committee does [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] not meet here until the month of December - and it is my one aim and desire to throw a stirring and strong work before the jury - American artists living abroad are not allowed

I am studying drawing in Colarossi's Love to all and a happy summer Shall write later to Sis—
