The Swiss stores are filled with interesting souvenirs and beautiful laces. Everything is twice as cheap as in Paris, and it is enchanting to watch the Swiss peasant girls doing fine linen embroideries out on the side walk.
 
I visited a German [[strikethrough]] fancy [[/strikethrough]] workshop and bought some fancy work, which I hope to get finished on the voyage home. It is a bureau scarf, and will be a novelty in Boston.
 
Before coming to Switzerland I had not realized that this was a Roman Catholic country. At every cove or point of land along the Lake is a shrine with a saint in it, so that by praying to it shipwreck may be averted.
