Lausanne, Sept 1st

My dear Mother;-
I have been moving around so rapidly this week that it is hard for me to remember just where I was each day. Sunday night I walked, part of the time in the rain, from Goschenen on the St. Gotthard road, to [[Hospitam?]]. Monday afternoon, [it rained in the morning & also late in the afternoon] over the Furka Pass to a hotel just above the Rhone Glacier. Tuesday morning down the mountain to the foot of the glacier & back. In the afternoon our one end of the Glacier & a mountain to summit Hospice [a hotel in a deep valley surrounded with walls of rock I with a guide, & then alone to Guttenan [[Guttannen]] [7 1/2 miles more] where we spent the night.
Wednesday on foot to Meiringen & then over the lake from Brienz to Interlaken. The whole walk on the Furka Pass was wonderfully fine, well worth the effort. Thursday on foot from Lauterbrunnen up a mountain to Brunnen, down another way & then part way up another hill to Wengen where we spent the
