Martha Washington - YWCA
N.Y. N.Y. 20 June 50

Dear Sid: We have gotten as far as N.Y. safely enough, and have a comfortable sleeping place at the Y.W.C.A., a rather run down place, and it is not far from the Penn Sta. where we came in. So tomorrow morning we can get off very early and go down to the boat. Doris still hasn't a pair of dress up shoes, and wants to try Macy's, which is about 8 blocks from here on our way to the pier, and which opens at 9 A.M. I shall allow her 3/4 of an hour at most there, so we should get to the boat a bit after 10. So far I can't think of anything we have forgotten.

We have worked hard getting things all done at home. Mrs B. called up this morning and asked "Have you had my electric stove fixed?" and said she had hurt her knee and had the doctor and it was better - - Alice Woods had previously called up and related Mrs. B's groans over her knee without much sympathy and ?able humor. Alice, at least, sees thru her, - I guess a week was quite sufficient for her.

Doris called up the father of "Duffy", the boy she knew 2 years ago at Radcliffe who went to Europe. His father told her that Duffy would be in Paris when she got there and gave her the address and Doris is much pleased over it. He was that missionary minded young man who tried to help Doris in her times of stress.

It is past 9 now and I want to get to bed. I think Doris has some scheme of writing to Dolores but trust it won't keep her up too long. We left Stoughton on the 1 o'clock bus, got the 3 o'clock train to N.Y. and it was 1/2 hour late. Our bags are not too heavy or cumbersome and we had little trouble. I am wearing the passport next to my breast and keep firm grip on everything else. We shall soon be seeing you.

Love -
Doris
