Routine Work

Work has been continued on the collections brought in by the steamer Albatross in April from the Gulf of Mexico. The sorting of the specimens in bottles was nearly completed last month, and during this month many of the miscellaneous lots contained in the copper tanks have been overhauled, assorted and transferred to jars. Nearly all of those portions assorted have been catalogued.

The four cases of identified specimens of Fish Commission collections received from Prof. Verrill, were unpacked, and lists made of all the lots. The Mollusks were at once turned over to Mr. Dall, and the other groups were stored on top of the cases in the West Smithsonian Hall, there being no more room for such collections in the basement. All of the groups excepting the Mollusks were entered in the catalogue books, and the cards for them made out, but they had been previously given catalogue numbers by Prof. Verrill.
