Subject: New SMOCs for flight STS81

Enclosed is the list of ten schools that have been selected by the NASA K-12 education center representatives and UCSD to participate in the second KidSat flight.

The NASA representatives have done an excellent job of coordinating with the local school districts to select middle schools that meet the technical requirements of the project and also have dedicated teachers who are enthusiastic about their involvement in KidSat. We have sent welcome letters (sample enclosed) to the primary KidSat teacher at each school, with copies to the principal and the local NASA contact. Each of these teachers have now also received the first three chapters of the material we have agreed to provide. The addition of these ten SMOCs brings the total for STS-81 up to 15, the number we targeted at our April meeting.

We are looking forward to working with all 15 of the KidSat schools during the coming months. If you would like more information on any of these new schools, please contact Hilary Haugen (hhaugen@ucsd.edu).

Sincerely,

Dr. Sally K. Ride
