______________________________________

1. Idea behind KidSat is to capitalize on 3 facts:
•kids like to do things themselves (be actively involved)
•kids like to learn about their "own back yard"
•kids are captivated by astronauts and the space program

2. KidSat will be:
•camera (set of cameras) designed by kids-that will fly on the space shuttle, Mir, and eventually the space station-to take pictures of the Earth.
•operated by kids (kids will decide what to take pictures of and why, control the cameras, and analyze the data)
•also includes extensive curriculum (developed by teachers and students)
•involves both the process of getting the pictures and possible use of those pictures
•applications in science, math, geography, history, social studies, etc.-not just science. Examples: Lewis & Clark expedition, fractals, gravity (why are astronauts weightless), rain forests, local terrain, water conditions, etc.

3. Where are we??
•Activities this summer:
-CTY Teachers at Corona del Mar
-CTY students
-SURF students
-Early look at camera design
-Early look at curriculum
