SURFWATCH RELEASES INTERNET BLOCKER FOR WINDOWS, PARTNERS WITH VENTANA TO MEET CONSUMER DEMAND

New software helps Parents and Educators take responsibility for what children see on the Internet

Washingon, July 17, 1995 -- SurfWatch Software, Inc. today announced the availability of SurfWatch 1.0 for Windows, first of its kind Internet software for blocking unwanted sexually explicit material. In a related announcement, SurfWatch Software signed an exclusive retail affilication with Ventana Communications Group which will make the software widely available to consumers in stores across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

With its Windows version joining the previously released Macintosh version, SurfWatch is now available for a wide audience of Internet users, including parents, educators, and employers who wish to reduce the risk of children and others from accidentally or deliberately uncovering sexually explicit material.

Because new sites appear on the Internet daily, SurfWatch Software also offers the SurfWatch Subscription Service which provides updates to the database of blocked sites. Custom site databases are also available, which block according to specific preferences. SurfWatch supports all the popular browsers and key Internet applications based on the Winsock interface. The product works with direct Internet connections via modem (SLIP or PPP), ISDN, or high-speed link.

Pricing and availability

The estimated street price for SurfWatch is $49.95, with a monthly subscription fee of $5.95 for site updates. Direct and Educational shipments of the Windows version will begin July 23, and SurfWatch will be available on retail shelves within 60 days. Special volume pricing is available for educational institutions and there is an authorized purchase program for Internet Service Providers.
