The ground demonstration payload candidates were presented, and an issue was raised as to the relatively small number of NASA payloads which have been identified as potential payload candidates. Payloads which have previously flown on Hitchhikers, Spacelab missions, and other Shuttle attached payloads are a priority, in addition to Space Station-unique payloads. No additional ground demo payload candidates were identified, but it was agreed that AIT members would actively solicit payloads in their areas of responsibility.

The meeting closed with a brief discussion on thermal analysis, and a metric comparison between the ground demonstration and flight program. There is considerable overlap between the ground demo and flight programs: footprint and weight capability of the Adapters, EVR mechanisms, power conversion and distribution system, software, MS 1553 data interfaces, and Pallet controller similarity. The ground demonstration unit will ultimately serve as the KSC Pallet simulator.

In summary, no design issues were identified on the ground demonstration portion of the BDR. The meeting was considered extremely successful, and the only identified issue is the small number of NASA ground demonstration payload candidates currently identified.

Splinter sessions were held on July 21 to discuss the proposed flight configuration for Pallet. The splinter sessions were attended by ESA, JPL, GSFC, and the Pallet design team.
