La Joya Middle School Exploring Excellence in Academics Stacy Dunnicliff Principal Anna M. Gomez Assistant Principal February 27, 1995 Dr. Sally Ride Director California Space Institute University San Diego 9500 Gilman Drive La Jolla, CA 92093-0221 Dear Dr. Ride: I want to thank you for taking time away from your very busy day to visit with me and the other members of the leadership team from La Joya Middle School. Having had this opportunity, we can see how difficult it would be for you to break away from your demanding schedule to meet the staff and students of La Joya Middle School. As we mentioned in our conversation, it is vitally important for us to make La Joya one of the best middle schools in the state. We want to provide the best educational opportunities through a wide variety of specialized programs and activities. With science, math, and technology as our focus, we feel that space exploration and the NASA theme are vehicles to help students actualize their goals. It is Stacy's and my hope that you can help La Joya Middle School become a participant in any distance learning projects that would require research or the use of higher thinking skills. We would like you to keep us in mind when selecting schools to participate in such studies or research activities. We are linked via modem with the latest in technological equipment, communication with schools in your area or elsewhere would be easy. If you have extra resources like videos, computer software, handouts, flyers, photos or space memorabilia that relate to our theme and vision, please consider sharing them with our students. Thank you, Dr. Ride. Sincerely, Anna Gomez [[signature]] Anna Gomez Assistant Principal, La Joya Middle School AG:vs [[Right Corner]] We should keep them in mind as a possible "test bed" for Jennifer's staff [[\Right Corner]]
