A one day review of the Mission Control Gateway (MCG) complex (i.e., the control center, the confernce [[conference]] room, and the backroom/teachers resource center) was held. There were two reviewers from the Rockwell/Downey Simulation and Ground Systems Development Division who have built control centers at RI. Students did all the presentations and the review team provided an excellent critique of the design and construction of the complex.

Evans Consoles visited the MCG to discuss a partnership with /CalSpace KidSat Mission Operations. They brought an audio/visual consultant with them. The layout of the MCG control center consoles and the large screen (6 x 8 feet) video projection system was discussed and a configuration agreed upon. Evans will provide CalSpace the same consoles now installed at the MCC and arrange to have the video projection system installed at an excellent price. Installation will be in October.

Preparation for the Mission Operations CDR on September 8 have been under way. The CDR procedures and content of the data package was established, and the data package has been prepared. Copies were sent to reviewers at remote sites (the pilot schools, JPL, JSC, etc) on Sept 1 and distributed to the UCSD review teams. The same procedures used by JSC for all CDR's in the human space flight process is being followed with RID's review teams, preboard, and board. By following this procedure the CalSpace Mission Operations students will gain a further understanding of how the space program design convergence process, as JSC does it, is carried out. Documents will be baselined via this CDR and a configuration control procedure instituted to control changes following the CDR. A system for filling out RID's and transmitting them to UCSD via internet has been set up and will be used. The CDR board is being formed now and will be announced next week.

A Technical Interchange Meeting was held with JSC Flight Planning and Operations people (Jennifer Price and Mike Scheib) on 8/31 and 9/1 at UCSD. This was a very good meeting with formal briefings by each student team to explain what is being done. There is now an excellent understanding by that element of JSC on just what KidSat will be doing operationally and
