See you there!!! -Hilary Present: Paul Bixler Carol Giesing Fred Peters Dr. Sally Ride Dr. Randy Souveney Dr. Mike Wiskerchen Steve Carnes Hilary Haugen Lisa Quintana Ron Reese Jeff Simons PDR / KidSat Curriculum Packet We discussed the development of the curriculum, particularly the water module and the mission operations which Paul is working on. There are 9 weeks scheduled during the school year for each of the three modules. The curriculum design team is paired with scientific specialists. The curriculum revolves around student-centered activities. An issues brought up from the PDR was the concern that the Mission Planning Guide and the Software User Guide to be developed by UCSD would overlap the curriculum modules. We confirmed the guides are only tools to use the hardware/software and have nothing to do with curriculum. We disscuessed the option of writing the guides for both teachers and students. Everyone thought this would be the best. Emphasized the point of having "user-friendly" software. Teacher Training Workshop There will be training for 10 days at the end of July. Each of the three teachers will be able to bring an additional teacher for the workshop. The workshop will include a three day lesson at a middle school in La Canada and a visit to CalSpace. This trip is scheduled for one day, but we are working on having the teachers down here longer. Gompers will have a space theme throughout the year. The curriculum will include Math, Science, and English. Documentation of the curricum is an issue to discuss in the near future. There is a possibility of having an after-school club. School-to-career 8-10 students and 4 teachers per school will the involved during the summer. Need to look at the operational modes. The student/teachers will be here for a 7-10 day period. This part of the program will be based on space studies careers. They will be part of the mission ops team. The concern is whetehr the program will be skill based or curriculum based. We are looking at the program from two angles. 1.Running the MCC at UCSD and 2.Set-up SMOC, act as "on call" experts. Need to be aware of student turn-over due to graduation. WWW constantly in development. Send e-mail for group to check out pages and get feedback. Next Meeting: Fri. June 9, 3:00 at CRB 313 Look at JSC displays and software.
