Mexican Volcanic Zone
This oblique view spans central Mexico, from the Pacific (foreground) to the Gulf of Mexico (background). The dark line cutting diagonally across Mexico (arrows) is the central Mexican Volcanic Belt. The other dark ridge along the Pacific coast forms the northern spine of the Central American Volcanic Belt. The dark areas are the forested upper slopes of the mountains. Mexico City is at 1, and Lake Chapala at 3. (STS41C-36-1668)
