Masaya Volcano

The 51-A crew in November of 1984 photographed Masaya Volcano erupting. This oblique view, looking northwest shows the westward blowing smoke plume. Coseguina Volcano (1), Lake Managua (2), Lake Nicaragua (3), active Concepcion Volcano (4) are visible in this photograph. A line of volcanoes joins Coseguina with Masaya and the volcanic peninsula in Lake Managua. (STS51A-32-066)

Masaya Volcano

This near-vertical view Masaya Volcano erupting was photographed by the 51-A crew in November 1984. Lava flows and ash deposit from previous eruptions can be seen. Portions of Lake Managua (1) and Lake Nicaragua (2) are also visible. Note the two calderas (3) filled with water. The city of Managua (4) is visible along the southern shores of Lake Managua.
