Houston, Texas The city of Houston is ringed by major freeway. The city is growing rapidly outward --new subdivisions just south of Ellington field (1) are typical of Houstons fast expansion. The band of development along the ship channel (2) is Houston's multi-billion dollar petrochemical industrial complex. The development ---both industrial and suburban --have increased hte likelihood of flooding and run-off into the region's bayous, and is one of several environmental changes which can be monitored from the space images.
