Southern California, Los Angeles to San Diego A wide view of the Southern California cities of Los Angeles (1) and San Diego (2) shows their relationship with the coastal ranges and the large fault systems (arrows) which runs roughly north-south. The deserts east of the mountains contrast sharply with the fertile cultivated lands of the Imperial Valley just south of the Salton Sea. The Mexican border is easily identified (3) by the differences in field geometry. (STS059-232-037)
