Shallow, Braided River Pattern

The relatively shallow channel network of the Zaire River flows across the ancient lakebed creating an extensive floodplain. The islands within this large floodplain are stable and vegetated. Swampland flanks the river in this region. The temperature differences between the river and the land account for the absence of clouds over the river. (61C-37-05)
