The Northern Coast of the Sea of Azov and the Putrid Sea

This series of views taken in February 1990 focuses on the agriculture-dominated northern coast of the Sea of Azov. Cultivated land extends to the coastline, contributing to the water pollution problem. One of the principle port cities on the Sea of Azov is Berdyansk (1) The Putrid Sea (2), Berdyansk Bay (3), Obitoghn Bay (4) Molochn Lake (5), and Utlyusk Lake (6) are also visible. Even though these scenes were taken in February, the lakes, bays, and both seas are not ice covered. This suggests that the region enjoyed a mild winter. Part of a west-to-east jet stream cuts across the top of the views. (STS036-74-054,055,056)
