Data System Overview

The KidSat Data System is the web site you visit to view your images (and those taken by other schools); access information about the images (including the title and other information you sent in with your photo request); download the images to your own computer; and acquire software tools and maps to help you analyze images once you get them onto your computer. The Data System URL address is:

http://kidsat.jpl.nasa.gov/kidsat/datasys

Shortly after photographs are taken by the KidSat camera, they are sent to the ground, then transferred to JPL (the Jet Propulsion Lab, in Pasadena, California), where they are quickly processed, archived, and made accessible on the web.

During the flight, this is the place to look to see your images!

After the flight, we ask that your students "validate" the images taken by your school. We also invite them to "annotate" any images that they find interesting (from this, or previous, KidSat flights).

Essentials:
Before/During the flight: It is essential to know how to find and use the "Latest Images" page in the data system. This is where you view your images!

After the flight: it is essential to understand the process for validating an image that your school has taken.

As you begin to use the data system, you will probably have questions. The data system includes an on-line tutorial that will help guide you; we are also creating a Frequently Asked Questions page, so check there to see if we have already answered your question.
