Subject: Space for KIDSAT

Prof. Ride:

Vice Chancellors Caserio and Attiyeh have asked me to
provide you a status report on the search for space for KIDSAT. The two Vice Chancellors are very excited about
the project and quite supportive. However, suitable space
on short notice is a tall order on the General Campus. In
developing options we have come up with some questions and
Dick Attiyeh told me that you had offered to answer such
questions personally. So here goes:

At this time some additional space in CRB (Chem Research
Building) is a promising option- but the following questions
and information items came up.

1. It will be difficult to carve out 2 separate 1000 sq ft (usage: is written in pencil off to the side of this line)
labs and we would very much appreciate any further details
you could provide on the usage and layout of the space.

2. Fairly costly renovations will be necessary- a first,
raw guess is about $150K. Money is very tight for this sort
of thing, can the contract pay for renovations?

3. Will you require all the space Fall quarter or is some
time-phasing possible? In other words, what space do you
absolutely need and when do you need each part?

4.Do you expect the KIDSAT project requirement for this space to extend beyond 2 years from January 1995?

Thank you for your time and attention. We promise to move
forward quickly with this extra information
