Memorandum of Understanding 27 Aug, 1999

This agreement between EarthKAM and space.com defines their collaboration through STS-99. It enables space.com to feature EarthKAM and EarthKAM images as part of the kids' section of its site, and provides wide exposure for the EarthKAM images.

EarthKAM and space.com agree that:

1. EarthKAM is a NASA education project; material can not be provided exclusively to space.com.

2. Though the EarthKAM images are in the public domain, some of the work done on the images, and coding associated with the two EarthKAM websites is not. Therefore, space.com and EarthKAM (JPL, UCSD, NASA, TERC) will determine what EarthKAM work can be contributed to the space.com site, and under what conditions.

3. EarthKAM will have right of final review of any content that is to be associated with the EarthKAM name.

4. In order to avoid driving traffic to the EarthKAM site during STS-99,
(a) EarthKAM will link to space.com; space.com will not link to EarthKAM (until after STS-99).
(b) Space.com will enable parties interested in EarthKAM to register for email distribution of information (to be provided by EarthKAM/space.com after STS-99).

More specifically, for STS-99:

1. EarthKAM will provide a set of 20 to 30 existing images to space.com. They will be provided in formats specified by space.com.

2. EarthKAM will provide existing metadata with each of these images. EarthKAM will also provide brief captions (or additional information) to go with these images. EarthKAM and space.com will discuss compensation for the captioning.

3. EarthKAM will provide space.com with potential activities for the kid site.
(a) Road Rallye was created for EarthKAM; NASA has given permission for its use, and has specified the organization that should be credited.
(b) Other activities are currently being developed by EarthKAM. If any are chosen for use, Space.com will discuss compensation/licensing with the teacher or organization responsible for their creation.
