[[//note in margin at top of page and down right margin]]

-We each spend 3-5 minutes on how we get into science (you 1st).

-The Moon: it's a cool place -- you've all seen it.

-(as you all know!) the moon orbits the Earth, while the Earth orbits the Sun (Photo of Earth & moon)

-The Moon's a long ways away. Here's what earth looks like from the moon (Apollo); compared to earth from the shuttle (Florida)

-Earth & moon to scale, with distance (relative sizes, distance)

-The Moon hasn't always been there (Earth didn't always have a moon. Moon's formation. (maybe: it's still slowly moving away)

-Crust formed (highlands); maria

- Bombarded with craters. (Earth gets hit, too)

-People have been to the moon! (but a long time ago)
-Apollo launch, 6 landings/12 people on the surface
     -Need spacesuits
     -1/6 g
-Set up instruments (e.g. laser reflector, moon quakes)
-Collected rocks: surface is old (learn about earliest days of solar system

-drove around in rovers --- to get craters 10 miles away.

-We've learned a lot since Apollo (Ice)

-a little on GRAIL? (analogy to Grace. watching the ice sheets melt?)
