a. Increasing Math/Science Teacher Pipeline
• Encourage college students to teach math and science:
• Fund financial aid increases to encourage students in teacher preparation programs to become math and science teaches. Budget initiative to increase APLE awards for teachers entering math/science and teaching in low performing schools
• Encourage private industry employees/retirees to become math and science teachers
• Provide funds to enable prospective teachers to take intensive study courses to prepare them to take math/science teacher subject matter exams; and to extent possible, complete pedagogy training before entering classroom as an intern teacher;
•Comprehensive review of effectiveness of all existing UC/CSU teacher pipeline programs
•Through budget process, realign funding to support the most effective programs.

b. Help Students in School now being taught by underprepared teachers:
• Provide intensive study courses to prepare out of field teachers to take math/science teacher subject matter exams
• Provide release time for teachers to study for and pass subject matter tests
• Pay course and test fees and provide release times
• Pay $1000 one-time bonus for completion of tests to math/science credential

c. Bring Back Retired Teachers as Mentors for math/Science Teachers
• Eliminate basic skills testing requirements to reinstate credential
