WREI
When astronaut Jim Lovell (of Apollo 13 Fame) was 
circling the moon, he looked back at earth + described 
our planet as "A grand oasis in the great 
vastness of space." .... That's extremely unusual 
eloquence for an astronaut - you won't be hearing
any more of that tonight.

I'm pleased to accept the WREI's American
woman award. The award's prestige derives from
the stature of the [[crossed-out]] board [[/crossed-out]] organization, + the stature of past
recipients - I'm honored to be included in such 
an elite group. With this year's award, you're 
not only recognizing me, but also the 
adventuring spirit of American women - + the 
contributions of women to science + technology.
You're also signalling to girls + young women 
that they, too, can pursue careers as
astrophysicists or rocket scientists.
