Our Focus, like that of Girl Start, = 4th - 8th Grade
=> If you're going to start something, start there
Research:
- In E.S., as many girls as boys (68% 66%) <= 4th grade
- But in 5th ... Both boys + girls start to disengage - but lose more girls (Starts there)
- Reasons are not aptitude or interest [societal]
-> Not Cool (EE)
-> Soc pepetuates [[perpetuates]] stereotypes of sci/eng => Einstein (Don't aspire) --> Draw a scientist

[[boxed]] Draw a scientist [[boxed]]

[=> Don't see themselves]
-> Subtle Msgs (Math + Mom)
-> Also don't see relevance => "Important, but not for me"

=> Students have wrong impression of sci + scientists,
+ misconceptions about their own suitability / or subj
+ Potential importance for them, what even career they choose

Research => Important to counter stereotypes early (E.S.)
+ Do it by introducing wide variety of sci/eng
(Diff Backgrounds, etc) + as normal people!
Also imp. to touch on diverse, interesting + relevant things they do.
