Crip led by example, fixed meals, cleaned the bathroom, stowed the trash.

STS-7: like a family, very close, felt we could interpret very subtle nuances, and understand each other very well. Support--especially through dealings with the press and media.

TFNG shirts--on STS-7, 4 out of 5 of us were from the 1978 class of astronauts. And since we were the first from that group to fly, we took some pride in that, and each flew a TFNG T-shirt.
On 41G we had a different thing tying us together: we were the first crew to go through several months of training without a commander. Crip was the commander of another crew, and was unable to join us until 6 months before flight.
