41G training without Crip--had a letter written up, and put it through the public appearance system from the 4 members of the crew inviting Crip to come and speak to us on the importance of the "crew concept". Joked that we'd launch without him.
Keep the MOCR busy"--we took pride in identifying problems before mission control could. Any way to describe Crip's knowledge? (014, FPC, restringing)
Pass on the hatch lock--like handing over the keys
STS-7 crew was called the "happiest crew". That's probably true. We enjoyed ourselves, and that came through on the air-to-ground.
41G "operator" story--that was a crew project
41G had to integrate 2 payload specialists into the crew. That probably drew the NASA crew closer together, but it was difficult to redefine the character of the crew, difficult to expand it to adopt first Marc, then Paul.
Other crew personalities:
2:practical jokes, WWI flying ace image
3:meticulous, drowned in detail
4:hard-driving, incredibly long hours and long meetings...hard to be a capcom for that crew
6:F-troop
7:family
8:steely-eyed CDR (night launch patch)
41D zoo crew
