least 4 distinct melodies none of which were the ordinary songs.    I wish I could immitate [[imitate]] the birds or were able in some way to fix their notes in mind so as to reproduce them on an instrument:  I suppose I could if I were more musical. 

I followed [[strikethrough]] my bird [[/strikethrough]] the sparrow until tea time through the snow, but am still uncertain of his identity.

Two of his songs were so different - the very quality of his voice seeming to have changed that, had I not seen him sing.
