Auf der Mosel. July 18th 1910
Dear Girl, This card give some idea of what the scenery is like on the Mosel. High hills with sliding sides come down to the waters edge, most of them clad with vinyards the rest wooded. The part of the river that we are on now has high palisade like hills on one side on the other flat meadows and farms. Now we are rounding the jagged nose of a mountain which ends abruptly at the waters edge, very much like the hills on the Hudson above West Point, only that the out-lines of these are straighter and the surfaces vary between the flat and concave instead of the round and full. One can imagine the river to be of wine, the vineyards are so numerous. Now we have come to a slowly rising hill striped with golden bands of grain, studed with orchards and green
