April 6th

Dear John-
    
First, sit down - so you won't fall down. All right - here we go. I'm going to be married on April sixteenth to Alice Parker. I don't know if you remember her at the school, but of course you remember her sister Eleanor Parker, in the sculp class. Tell Smith - he knows her - and don't drop dead of surprise in each other's arms. 
   
Listen - we are going to sail for Gibraltar on the Moltke, April eighteenth, arriving there the 27th, so drop me a line to Gib if your address is changed at all. My address will be Cook's, Madrid after May 8th or thereabout. We're going 
north through Spain slowly, Seville, Granada, Cordova, Toledo - matic names, all - and may not reach Madrid till later, but I'll get Cook's to forward letters from there. Lord, what painting to do- and what paintings to see. 
     
I hate "women in art" as much as you do, but Lord, this is different. Alice has got ten times as much stuff as I have, and with the proper coaching and opportunity is bound to be a world's champ before she is through. Also, she has more courage than anybody I ever saw. 
    
We expect to hit Paris sometime in June. Boy, you gotta be there when we come. We don't
