Seville, May 10th
[1912]

Dear John,
Your words about the old frames of Spain fell on good ground. We hied us out and bought several of different sizes and then the fever being in our blood, proceeded to get old pieces of brocade, old glass, and two marvellous carved Spanish desks or whatever they are something like that one you had in Boston with the many secret drawers. The prices here are about one fourth of what they would be at home and at that you couldn't get such nice things in America. We can have our stuff shipped by direct boat from here to New York.

Gee, John I wish you could see the antiques here. You see the prices aren't killed by Americans the way they are in Rome, Paris, and Munich. But we couldn't find any good chairs. Suppose I'll have to wait till I get back to Germany before I find any. But keep your eyes open for any simple old carved oak or walnut chairs, my boy. If I remember there were some likely looking little antique shops around Mont Parnass - in alleys, and so forth.

We are having a great time. It's hotter than hinges here, but, nothing to me after last summer and we're off for Madrid in a couple of days.
