Listen, son. I was a "lousy art student" all last winter for Alice was abroad the whole time and only got back to America just before we were married.
I'm crazy to get to Paris to see you. Alice is afraid it will cost us a lot of money there, as she has so many sporty friends who would want to invite us to expensive cafes, in which case we'd have to write them too. But I don't want to be scared off by that. I'd just refuse all such irritations and have a good time in our own way. I wish we could be there next winter, but I guess there isn't much chance of that.
I hope to see you by the middle of June or thereabout. I want to paint your picture old sport. And I'll pose for you if you want - though Alice says she doesn't see why anyone should want to "sculpt" me.
All sorts of luck, John, and give my best to Howard Smith
