19 Calle Mayor-
Madrid-

Dear John-
I was darned sorry to hear that you have sailed for America so soon because I don't believe we'll reach Paris till June 30th, and I suppose you'll be gone by that time. It's rotten luck, because I was looking forwards with great pleasure to seeing you and having a look at your work. I hope you're not being called home by any unpleasant news. I thought you'd be over here for quite a while.
We've been having a great time. We've been in Madrid for two weeks now copying at the Prado. A wonderful gallery, I tell you. Alice has done a Veronese and is finishing a Titian - both [[?]] copies. I've done a [[?]] and a Velasquez and am finishing another Titian. We expect to leave here the 23d and see a few towns in Northern Spain on our way to Paris.
Boy, you ought to see the antiques in this country! Wonderful! I think I wrote you about the desks and [[treasures?]] we bought in Seville. Well of course the prices here are higher in the big shops but we've found some smaller ones. Big Spanish arm chairs with leather backs and seats for ten dollars apiece - in perfectly good condition. And in Toledo we got six little Louis XVI chairs without the upholstery for twenty dollars for the lot. That's $3.40

Transcription Notes:
if you can figure out the artist he's talking about in the second paragraph before he mentions Velasquez i think you have superpowers.
