Mr. Storrs -

Well, I've been here since Wednesday and have "sized up" the town for myself. My conclusions are that there is not much here to interest me long. It's over-run with English, most of whom paint in water-colors along the canals. There are a host of old bridges showing Spanish influence, as the town for about 100 years was under their sway. There is much to interest an architectural student. Each house is different, altho. of one style. Each is a gem in perfection and size. I have met some very charming people. This afternoon I am going to visit two of Belgiums best painters who reside here. The weather has been perfect altho some what warm. The air is quite mellow and paintable especially at dusk. The people are slow as the Dutch but hospitable everywhere and seem glad to see one and do anything for one their means allow them. I may spend two weeks here.

Lille was an interesting town but I found Amiens the best of all - really a fine old town and paintable too. I'm sorry I didn't
