Dear John.

When I received your letter, we had just arrived and I had neither paint nor anything under my hands to be able to answer immediately. So I hid your letter in a nice corner so as not to have it lost. As far as that goes it was all right. But the trouble is that after having my things out and ready, I entirely forgot your letter.
