Mother and boy could make a picture in themselves, but we feared lest you should wish to paint a lot of furniture and stuffs beside.
 
It is marvellous to us that the picture is at once so full of life and so full of repose. There is not a touch painted or suggested that we would change.

The line through Juniors straight little frame, then through the turn of his head, his mother's figure, the sweep of her gown, right to the end of Joker's paw is most beautiful. 
 
We couldn't see it when the picture left Worcester, but we can now. The depth and strength of Mrs. Gage's head pleases me very much
