Dear Mr. Alexander

My confidence in the success of the portrait has never waned since I saw the work of those first days in Worcester. I felt that it started right, and that a good start was a happy omen. Today my faith has had its reward. The more I look at and study the portrait the better I like it. I had hardly dared to hope for anything so perfectly satisfactory in every detail and so beautiful. 

I want to thank you heartily for the picture, for the interest you have taken in it, and for the pains you have taken to make the sittings easy and pleasant for the boy and his mother. You and Mrs. Alexander have both been very kind to us and I hope
