a relief to hear that the boy was getting his discharge and would soon be with you, got your 2nd & 3rd letter from Lovell yesterday, and it was so good to hear from you, also a long letter from that dearest of girls - I grieve over her so much, she is in my mind all the time, she is such a dear pathetic figure, do all you can for her, she must keep up that treatment if it is helping her, we will surely go to her this fall if it is a possible thing. I might finish my portraits out there if I could get a large studio with right light, don't make it positive, but wire her to this effect it might cheer her up and it does take so long to get word back & forth,  I hope Wendell will have some opening better than Paris, to my mind it is a most undesirable place under conditions that prevail, so unreal - so much rush and false glamour - And money goes like water, it does everywhere in Europe, I am frightened at the outlook, its outlay at every turn, in my case I am simply forced into grooves, that involve onslaught of expenditures,  Have held off all I could, but had to get a morning suit,  My afternoon rig is not "comme il fait" except on occasions—  I sent 400 dollars to be credited to my account at the Fifth Ave. Bank to day, so you could meet any emergency, don't [[scrimp?]] but avoid unnecessary outlays we of course
