My dearest Douglas-

It is Wednesday to day - & I haven't heard from you since a week ago last Saturday—
The Times give a list of many incoming steamers - & I presume they bring mail - but none for me— I hope it is not for illness that you do not write— Jerry has driven down for the morn [[morning]] mail. & maybe there is a good long letter from you—
The two helmets & two shell cases - came yesterday - & it was fun opening them - I have tried to brighten up the cases - but

a little - just temperarily [[temporarily]] - as it is almost impossible in places - we straddle over as well as we can - but others hate to come in here - We cannot get help for one day from any man -
My dearest keep well - write often if only a line or two - to your loving anxious Marion
