Then we got down to our business in hand - I had to talk what French I could, with some assistance now & then from Mr. Armour, still I got on pretty well, he said that the King was naturally very occupied, and whereas he was good natured and willing to give time, his entourage had to save him as much time as possible, of course he wanted to know how many sittings I would require, and incidentally

remarked that if this request had not come through United States channels, he would not have given any sittings, under present conditions, as he had only consented a couple of times since the war, thus he the Aide wanted to know if photographs could be used for the preliminary work, and I told him I would do the best I could but wanted to make something worthy of the great subject, the King dresses in Soldier uniform most of the time, and seems, to prefer to be represented in this manner, it is Kaki
and I would prefer something darker, however, we will have to represent him as he is, I presume, he showed me a lot of photographs
